Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Teaser Trailer

Ubisoft has released a teaser trailer for their latest shooter Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.

The trailer doesn’t show any form of gameplay, though a release window of fall 2010 was given. We were also given a hint of stealth technology being present in the game.

4 Months Hiatus, Anniversary, Redesign

Hiatus

Wow. It has been a good 4 months since our last post, and it has been exactly 1 year since our first post. Much has changed over one year with Gamepulsive’s existence – but more specifically with the contributors’ lives. Everyone’s been very busy lately. Working in the game industry sometimes doesn’t leave a lot of spare time (well, depending on what company you work for I guess). It’s a new year (a little late for that statement, I know) and I figured I should start reviving Gamepulsive because I want to utilize the money I paid for the domain name O_o. I have some things I want to share regarding the last 4 months I (speaking for myself) was silent, and I also have new plans for the site and how it’s going to evolve within the next few months.

Direct2Drive $5 Sale

Better late than never. It’s Direct2Drive’s 5th year anniversary. And to commemorate the occassion, they are selling some of their titles for $5 for 5 weeks. Every week, they’re lining up a different set of games to sell for $5. It started last week featuring lineups of Ubisoft games and strategy games. This week, it’s Action/FPS week and the likes of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, Bioshock, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. are up for $5. On the following weeks D2D is lining up MMOs and RPGs, indie games, and war games on the last week. If you’re interested in buying, visit the website and shell out some of those spare moolah you have.

Vega – Worst Character in Street Fighter IV

It has been almost two months since the release of CAPCOM’s Street Fighter 4 for the PC. The game was a hit in the office as we do gauntlet type “change the loser” (or challenge the winner for those who find the first statement too offensive, LOSERS!) game.

So everyone assessed their all-time favorite characters. For me, it was Cammy. Well, after a few rounds of playing, I gave up on her and went to my second favorite, Sagat. Turns out Sagat is a beast in SF4. A 3-hit generic combo of Ryu is more or less equal to one CHP (Crouching-Hard-Punch) of Sagat!

As we had played for several weeks, we’ve noticed that two of our better players only use Shotokans or more specifically Ryu. So it turned into an office joke whenever the two square off. People would say “OMG! I was so surprised, I never thought it would be a Ryu vs Ryu matchup!” and the likes.

In order to have some changes in the matchups, we established “Alien Week” which simply means you would have to use a character that you do not use ordinarily. So the Goukens became Rufus, the Ryu became Blanka, the Sagats became Dhalsim, and the Zangiefs became Ryu (LOL!).

Since I also have to choose a new one, I decided to use the least played character in the office, Vega.

Disney Bought Marvel for $4 Billion

If you haven’t heard yet, Disney has acquired Marvel for a hefty price of $4 billion. What could this mean to the Marvel Universe? Could it be sprinkled with a bit of Disney Magic dust? I most certainly hope not, at least not from a creative standpoint. Business-wise, I guess I have no complaints. Disney has been very successful pushing their products into the limelight and making lots of moolah. Just to name a few, we have Toy Story, The Incredibles, and Finding Nemo. I just hope Disney gives Marvel enough autonomy to continue their creative work – please don’t make it kiddy-like. If you want more info, read this announcement.

Anyway, the announcement spawned several ideas off of the interwebs as of late, and the one that really piqued my interest is the Marvel vs. Disney fighting game. LOL. A lot of dream match-ups were made sporting the funniest rivalries in VS. history; Ironman vs. Gizmoduck, Wolverine vs. Mickey Mouse, The Hulk vs. Goofy. Anyway, here’s a few of my own that I can throw in:

  • Beast (from X-Men) vs. The Beast (from Beauty and the Beast) subtitled “Who’s the real Beast?”
  • Mr. Fantastic vs. Elastigirl (from The Incredibles) subtitled “Stretch Me Baby!”
  • Namor vs. Nemo (from Finding Nemo) subtitled “Finding Namor’s Nemo.”
  • Ant Man vs. Zipper (Little green fly from Rescue Rangers) subtitled “Bzzzt!”
  • Deadpool vs. Donald Duck subtitled “Battle of the Blabbermouths!”
  • Wasp vs. Tinkerbell subtitled “Femme Petite!”
  • Spiderman vs. Winnie the Pooh subtitled “Which is More Sticky, Web or Honey?”
  • Aunt May vs. Evil Stepmother subtitled “Wrinkles of the Future!”
  • Apocalypse vs. Bambi subtitled “WTF?!?”
  • Mandarin vs. Jafar (from Alladin) subtitled “Battle of the Moustache.”
  • Daredevil vs. Darkwing Duck subtitled “The Night is Young.”
  • Omega Red vs. Ursula (from Little Mermaid) subtitled “Day of The Tentacles.”
  • The X-Men vs. The Cast of High School Musical subtitled “Xavier School Musical.”
  • Ultron vs. WALL-E subtitled “Directive?”

Game Booster

Having a 5-year old PC is a real pain in the neck specially when I’m playing online games. For single-player games, the slightly choppy gameplay is still forgivable but when it comes to fragging someone in an online game, things get really frustrating when the game slows down every once in a while. I asked a few of my friends for PC tweaking advice and one of them recommended to me a software called Game Booster.

Game Booster

Game Booster

Game Booster supposedly optimizes the PC for gaming by temporarily shutting down background processes not needed for playing games. It also cleans RAM, and intensifies processor performance – whatever that means and how Game Booster does it, I don’t really know. My friend who recommended it has been using it for a while on his old rig and claims to have gotten a 20-30% performance boost out of his machine. I guess there’s no harm in trying so I decided to give it a go. After the first playthrough, I already saw results. The already (rare) smooth parts of the game, as far as I can remember, became smoother and the occasional slow-down wasn’t as frequent as before (but they’re still there nonetheless).

Overall, I think it helped my current dilemma a bit – though it didn’t really solve my PC’s real problem. Like I said, the slow-downs were still there so I’m thinking the slow-downs are already hardware-related. I wouldn’t really expect anything much from a 5-year old PC anyway. But anyway, yeah, the Game Booster did help so if you guys are looking to “extend” your aging PC’s gaming life expectancy, you might want to try this software. Head on to the download area, it’s just a 1mb file.
