Hiatus
Wow. It has been a good 4 months since our last post, and it has been exactly 1 year since our first post. Much has changed over one year with Gamepulsive’s existence – but more specifically with the contributors’ lives. Everyone’s been very busy lately. Working in the game industry sometimes doesn’t leave a lot of spare time (well, depending on what company you work for I guess). It’s a new year (a little late for that statement, I know) and I figured I should start reviving Gamepulsive because I want to utilize the money I paid for the domain name O_o. I have some things I want to share regarding the last 4 months I (speaking for myself) was silent, and I also have new plans for the site and how it’s going to evolve within the next few months.
The Reason
Probably one of the most significant changes in my life in September last year was technological; my 5-year old PC finally succumbed to old age. It had a Pentium IV 3.0e processor, had 3 video cards in its lifetime (GeForce 5950, GeForce 6800 GT, GeForce 7600 GS), 1GB of RAM, 2x 80GB HDDs, and an old Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 sound card. It was worth around PHP70,000 (U.S. $1500) when I bought it, excluding the monitor, sound card, and speakers. I’m kinda proud of that old piece of junk. It lasted me a good 5 years, heck, I even played Modern Warfare in the lowest possible settings in that machine and I still managed to kick some behind. I still haven’t found out why the thing died out on me, the reason being, I bought a new monster machine! ^_^
The very week I lost my PC to the robot heaven of the Transformers (it sucks btw), I wasted no time finding all the pieces I wanted to buy for my new monster rig and good thing I was saving for the inevitable. The same week, I bought my new baby. With an Intel i7 920, CoolerMaster V8 CPU HSF, GeForce GTX275, 3GB Corsair XMS3 RAM, Creative X-Fi Titanium, it’s a beast encased in a black CoolerMaster 690. Other things I bought for it is a Logitech X-540 5.1 speakers, Creative Fatal1ty headset, and a 24″ True 1080 HD monitor – sweet. The whole package cost me around the same price range as my old PC – well maybe add a few thousand bucks. I’m not actually satisfied yet, 3GB of RAM doesn’t really cut it for me so I’m thinking of upgrading it to 6GB this year, and maybe a DX11-capable video card in 2011.
Since I bought my new PC, I found less and less time to devote to writing for GP. I mean, imagine seeing all those good games come and go and not even having the chance to play them or enjoy them because you had a 5-year old PC. Put yourself in my shoes, If you had the means of playing all those good games.. Fallout 3, GRID, Left 4 Dead, Dragon Age: Origins, the list goes on.. wouldn’t you spend your time trying to make peace with your gaming conscience? Well I would! So there, I admit it, I am an impulsive gamer (duh, besides, I could only use my PC on the weekends). Couple this reason with a busy work week and there you have it – my lame excuse for not blogging.
Plans For The Future
I’ve been using this Wordpress theme since Gamepulsive went online and once in a while I’d stumble upon a gaming blog with the same theme. I’m all for a unique look but I love the simplicity and usefulness of my current theme. So I opted for keeping the theme and just changing the colors, as you may have already noticed. Another idea I had in mind is to focus purely on blogging about gaming experiences; which means there would be a shortage of gaming news and more focus on retrospectives. I have other plans in mind but I haven’t ironed out my ideas. I’ll share them once I figured out all the necessities, but for now, this new post will do. I know it’s late but a happy new year to every impulsive gamer out there!
Edit: I’ll try to post some pictures of my PC over the weekend so you guys know I’m not just making it up (now to find a PC that fits the Exact description I gave).
