For Street Fighter fans out there, you probably know of the upcoming movie “Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li” starring Kristin Kreuk as the world’s strongest woman. The movie will be released this year.
As usual, they sucked again in casting, especially they’re Vega (Balrog in Japan), the Spanish Ninja/Matador. Why is it that when they cast Vega, and it says Spanish, people automatically assumes Latin American. Vega, is a blond, narcissistic white guy. Doesn’t mean that since he speaks Spanish, he is from Latin America. Another thing is that Vega is supposedly handsome which is why he wears the mask to protect his pretty face. If you’re wondering who would be playing Vega, its Taboo from Black Eyed Peas.
Now, we also have Gen on this movie which would be played by Robin Shou. Wow! Improvement! He looks Chinese. Crap! He’s young! Is it that hard to cast an old mystical looking Chinese guy for Gen?
Now we have here Balrog. Ah, just about right. I’m not sure though on Michael Clarke Duncan’s physique but at least he’s black.
Now as for the other characters, I think they look fine. It could have been better but comparing M.Bison (Neal McDonough) and Nash (Chris Klein) to who they casted for Vega and Gen, its good enough.
Now a lot of people are against Kristin Kreuk for the role of Chun-Li and well, I am not one of them. First, Kristin Kreuk is half Chinese. Second, she is young, and Chun-Li is supposed to be young. Other actress that some people suggest are Zhang Ziyi, Lucy Liu, Kelly Hu, and Hsu Chi. Now, Zhang Ziyi would be great for Chun-Li but would she accept the role? Lucy Liu is old, so as Kelly Hu and Hsu Chi.
So, as with the Street Fighter movie of the 90s, I am not expecting much from this film. I’ll still watch it, probably, as a fan of Street Fighter.
Hi,
Thank you! I would now go on this blog every day!
Have a nice day
